St Johnstone playmaker Graham Carey believes the Perth club’s clash with Ross County is their “biggest game of the season”.
Top six football might be out of Saints’ reach following last weekend’s defeat to Aberdeen.
But they can all but secure their Premiership status by ending a long winless run at McDiarmid Park.
“The season has been a bit up and down,” said Carey, “We have picked up injuries and suspensions so we’ve never really had a settled team.
“It’s been stop-start, which has been frustrating at times.
“We went on a good, unbeaten run before the World Cup but we haven’t picked that form up again.
“We’re ahead of the teams at the bottom but top six is probably too far now, so we’re in that weird position in the middle of the league.
“Our aim was to get the top six and to have a good run in the cups but we went out early.
St.Johnstone's already faint top six hopes evaporating yesterday as their atrocious home form continued.
The Saintees have only won 3 of their 14 games in Perth this season to date, the joint worst home record in the division.
They host Ross County next weekend.

“So it has been frustrating but after last season, there has been an improvement.
“Although we have a gap between us at the bottom, we still need wins to get completely away from it.
“So this is a big game. It’s the most important of the season so far.
“It’s been too long since we had a home win – crazy really – so we have to turn that around.”
