St Johnstone assistant manager Callum Davidson has joined the Scotland backroom team for next week’s World Cup qualifier against England.
Tommy Wright’s number two – who played against the Auld Enemy under Craig Brown – replaces Aberdeen assistant Tony Docherty to work alongside manager Gordon Strachan and assistant Mark McGhee.
Speaking on the Official Scotland Podcast, Strachan said: “We have done our homework and everyone speaks highly of Callum.
“He has also been an international player and knows what is needed.
“There’s a freshness and enthusiasm about him. We had a meeting to make sure we know each other and he understands his remit. He is very happy with that, he is going to be doing nothing different to what he has done at St Johnstone. They have had a great season.”
Davidson, who made 26 appearances for Scotland, will have a quick return to his day job as Saints return for pre-season training the same weekend as the England game.
