Steven Maclean has admitted that the St Johnstone-Aberdeen rivalry calmed down towards the end of last season but the “edge” that has defined the fixture for several years remains intact.
“Yeah, it did,” said the Perth striker ahead of today’s second v third clash at Pittodrie. “It will have an edge to it, though.
“If we win we’ll go second on goal difference and if they win they’ll go six ahead of us. It’s a massive game for both sides.
“Whether it has the edge that other ones have had against them, who knows? We’ll need to wait and see what happens.
“They’ve had a few changes to their squad but Derek (McInnes) and Doc (Tony Docherty) will be telling them what we’re all about, that’s for sure.”
