Just short of 1,500 fans turned out to honour St Johnstone legend Dave Mackay at his testimonial match, but it was the club he started out at who won the match 5-3.
Dundee took an early lead from a Mark O’Hara header and extended their lead when young Jack Lambert curled a shot home from the edge of the box.
Then in the final minute of the half Sofien Moussa powered home a back post header from a Faissal El Bakhtaoui cross.
The Dark Blues brought their former stars on at half-time, as well as boyhood Dundee fan Charlie Adam.
Saints pulled a goal back when Denny Johnstone beat Rab Douglas from 25 yards.
The man of the moment was brought on just after the hour to a standing ovation from the crowd.
The fans were also treated to the sight of Murray Davidson replacing Zander Clark in goals shortly after. Davidson was beaten ex-Saint Steven Milne and then youngster Max Anderson.
Fittingly, though, Mackay scored from the penalty spot and then Roddy Grant got one too.
