Steven Anderson has admitted that losing the St Johnstone captaincy came as a shock.
The Perth defender, who has been impressive since his return from suspension in Saints last two matches, has been replaced as skipper by Joe Shaughnessy.
Anderson said: “It was a bit of a shock.
“But I have just kept my head down and I keep going. These things happen in football and big Joe deserves it. He has been brilliant for us.
“I have to admit I haven’t been playing to my best and the gaffer is probably right at the end of the day. It’s up to him. Everyone has opinions and I have to accept it.
“I don’t think the captaincy adds extra pressure here. There are a few extra duties but the gaffer obviously thought it was affecting me and took it off me.
“But I’m my worst critic. I am quite hard on myself.
“I will keep working away for the team. I have been through sticky patches before.”
