There is no panic at McDiarmid Park that St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is about to be lured across Tayside to Dundee United, according to Blair Alston.
With the Tangerines’ hunt to replace Ray McKinnon dragging into a third week, Wright’s name has cropped up again for a switch to Tannadice, two years after he was a target to succeed Jackie McNamara.
Alston sees in Wright, however, a man who is still enjoying his work in Perth.
“The manager will do what he wants to do but ultimately we think he’ll be here,” he said.
“He has been the driving force of this club in the last few years. He’s been a massive influence on everyone.
“He’s been great for me, he’s a very good manager and he’s working hard to turn things around.
“This is a well-run club and everyone says we have overachieved in the last few years but we have always believed we can finish top six.
“We need to improve from the run we’ve been on but we believe we can do it again this season.
“Would it be a surprise if he went to a team in the league below? It might be if he goes, but he’s the manager and he’ll decide what he’s doing.
“He still seems to be enjoying it here, training wise things have been the same and everyone is working hard.
“There are plenty of teams who would want to be in the position we’re in. There are teams below us and we know this run won’t last forever.”
Meanwhile, Wright said: “I think since I’ve won the cup speculation has linked me to other clubs and I’m still here.
“It’s all news to me. There’s absolutely nothing in it.”
