That the two teams with the least left to play for in the Premiership ended up drawing 0-0 wasn’t the greatest shock of the weekend.
This was certainly no classic.
The first half was a contest played almost completely in front of the two defences, with a Murray Davidson 20-yarder in the 45th minute that narrowly missed the target as good as it got.
Five minutes after the re-start there was encouragement of better times to come when David Wotherspoon forced a good save out of Trevor Carson with a left foot volley.
And, if either team deserved to win it was Saints, who showed far more attacking intent than their opponents in the second half.
But neither side was able to grab a winner and they remain tied on the same points total as the battle to finish top of the bottom half of the table now goes into the post-split phase.
