St Johnstone have given themselves a solid platform to build on this season both in terms of points and players, according to striker David McMillan.
The Irishman, who scored Saints’ second goal in the 2-1 win against Hamilton Accies on Saturday, believes the signings made on the last day of the transfer window completed a summer of rebuilding.
And two wins and a draw to go into the international break has backed up belief that there is a successful campaign is in the making.
“The squad we have now is very strong,” said the former Dundalk man.
“We’ve signed another two guys on Friday (Danny Swanson and Ross Callachan). There’s a lot of competition in pretty much every position.
“If you’ve got the jersey you will have to fight very hard to keep it.
“We’re in a good position after our defeat at Kilmarnock on the opening weekend.
“To go into the break on the back of two wins is very positive for us.
“We know we’ve got a lot of tough games when we come back but we’ve got points on the board and can go into them with nothing to lose.”
