Tony Watt will be moving on from St Johnstone at the end of the season, manager Tommy Wright has revealed.
The Perth club entered into talks about extending the former Celtic striker’s stay at McDiarmid Park but player and club were too far apart in their expectations to pursue them any further.
The well-travelled forward made an instant impact at Saints and won a player of the month award for August.
The goals dried up, though, with the 25-year-old only scoring one in this calendar year. He has eight in total, three of which have been in the league.
“We spoke to Tony and his adviser last week,” said Wright.
“He’ll be leaving at the end of the season.
“We made Tony an offer. It wasn’t what he was looking for.
“I fully understand that. A player has a valuation for himself and our valuation doesn’t match Tony’s.
“So we’re looking elsewhere to bring another striker in next season.”
