St Johnstone have started contract talks with Brian Easton.
The full-back has been plagued by injury over the last year but has been working his way back to fitness.
His current deal runs out in the summer but Tommy Wright has confirmed that he wants to keep his Scottish Cup-winning defender at McDiarmid Park.
“We have started speaking to Easty,” said Wright.
“I have had a conversation with him and the chairman will speak to his agent now.
“There is a desire from the club to offer him something so we’ll sit down and discuss it.”
There are only two games left of the season and Easton, who has been a substitute recently, may yet get some Premiership game-time.
“He could come back into the team before the end of the season,” said Wright.
“Scott Tanser is doing well but I have one eye on getting him a game.
“We have a lot to play for. It wouldn’t be a risk playing Easty but with seventh to play for I don’t want to make too many changes.
“So it’s something I’ll have to have a think about.”
