Liam Gordon will miss the first few weeks of the season after the St Johnstone centre-back fractured his elbow in training.
The initial prognosis is the 23-year-old will be sidelined for between four and six weeks.
Manager Tommy Wright reported: “This is obviously hugely disappointing news both for the team and for Liam.
“He finished last season strongly and has started pre-season very well.
“The injury came from an innocent fall during training this morning and it’s just an extremely unfortunate thing to have happened.”
