Sandy Lyle’s “yucky” Open will come to its inevitable conclusion today.
The former champion suffered badly on day one, posting a 14-over par round of 85.
As the numbers would suggest, it was a day to forget for the veteran Scot.
“I was in nearly every bunker you can think of,” he said. “Or I three-putted or I hit bad shots.
“It was just bad golf all the way round from the start to the finish.
“I’ve been playing that way quite a bit this year, quite a few high numbers. My long irons were awful today. I didn’t do anything well. I was always in the wrong spot somewhere. It was just one of those yucky days.
