There will be no Silver Medal awarded at this year’s Open as both amateurs in the field missed the cut.
British Amateur champion Scott Gregory finished nine over par, while Italy’s Stefan Mazzoli was 12 over.
Gregory, who for a short while shared the joint lead on the first day, has a place at next year’s US Open and is likely to receive the traditional invitation to the Masters, so is prepared to hold off joining the paid ranks.
“I’ll definitely go play in the Masters and we’ll have to wait and see,” he said.
“But I’ve got no plan at all at the moment as to when I want to turn pro.
“If I turn pro today there’s probably not a lot of point because I wouldn’t be making a lot of money so I might as well wait until I feel like I’m ready.”
