Paul Lawrie has resurrected the Scottish Par 3 Championship to be staged at the former Open champion’s Golf Centre to the south of Aberdeen in August.
Lawrie’s long-time backers Aberdeen Asset Management – who also sponsor both men’s and women’s versions of the Scottish Open – have agreed to be title sponsor of the Par 3 version, an event Lawrie hosted for two years until the centre was flooded by the River Dee breaking its banks in 2016.
However the centre at Ardoe has bounced back with a vengeance and the Par 3 Championship is be relaunched, to be played on August 28 and 29.
“We’re looking at a field of 54 and I’ve already spoken to a number of my fellow European Tour players as well as some Ladies Tour Professionals and guys from the European Challenge, Seniors, EuroPro, and EPD tours,” he said.
“We’re looking for as strong a field as possible and with the centre having recovered so well from the flooding and in such great condition I can’t wait to host the event again.
“I’m personally delighted that Aberdeen Asset Management has agreed to become title sponsor of this year’s Championship. They’ve been incredible supporters of golf – both Professional & Amateur – at home and abroad over a long period of time. This is just further evidence of their on-going commitment to golf at all levels of the game.”
The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Par 3 Championship will compriuse of a Pro-Am format that will see 1 Professional and 1 Amateur paired-up to play 36 holes on the nine-hole Devenick Course.
