European captain Annika Sorenstam was pleased with a lead from the opening session of the Solheim Cup, but warned “It’s just the beginning of a marathon.”
“I felt the team came out, worked on their timing and really giving themselves a chance,” she said.
“We wanted everybody to get a chance to play today. I feel very comfortable with the pairings out there.
“And we had everybody go to the first tee this morning, just to get a feel for it, and now they’re all ready to play.”
Julie Inkster said that her team “got a little sloppy” at the end of the morning foursomes, but expected to “get that point back” in the afternoon.
“Everybody has their head up, first day they can’t get too hard on themselves. We’re playing a lot of golf this weekend.
“The crowds were great. Austin Ernst said if we can play in front of these people all the time, it would be awesome.”
