Walker Cup star Grant Forrest leads a strong field for this weekend’s Battle Trophy at Crail Golfing Society, the third counting event in the Scottish Amateur Order of Merit season.
Forrest will be the favourite for the event staged over the two Crail courses, with Sunday’s two final rounds played over the Craighead course, but faces stiff opposition from several top-ranked contenders.
Australian Amateur champion Connor Syme (Drumoig) will be the chief contender from Fife.
Glenbervie’s Graeme Robertson is seeking to follow up last week’s victory in the Craigmillar Park Open.
Meanwhile, Eric McIntosh, the newly crowned Scottish Boys champion from Bruntsfield Links, is another aiming for a second win this season.
The 17-year-old followed up last Saturday’s win at Murcar Links with a top-10 finish in the Peter McEvoy Trophy in England.
Scotland caps Jamie Savage, Liam Johnston and Calum Fyfe, as well as South African Amateur winner Craig Ross, feature.
Leading Scottish Boys contenders Sandy Scott and Rory Franssen are also in the field.
The Battle Trophy was first played at Crail in 1998, but since 2001 has been an SGU counting event with points qualifying for the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
