Scotland playmaker Finn Russell is said to have departed the country’s Six Nations training camp.
According to the BBC the fly-half, one of the country’s star players, could miss the entire tournament.
The 27-year-old, who plays for Racing 92 in France, has been a key figure in the Scotland camp in recent years.
The Scots are due to face off against Ireland on February 1.
A Scotland team spokesperson said: “Stand-off Finn Russell will play no further part in preparations for Scotland’s Six Nations opener against Ireland, having been disciplined for a breach of team protocol during the week’s camp in Edinburgh.
“He has returned to his club.”
