Scottish Rugby got the green light from member clubs to seek external finance for the Edinburgh and Glasgow pro teams after a unanimous vote of delegates at BT Murrayfield last night.
Fears that the Special General Meeting of the SRU might not attract a quorate number of clubs proved unfounded with 171 representatives, and there were no dissenters on a card vote approving president Rob Flockhart’s request for a change in the Union’s regulations.
The SRU’s executive board are seeking finance from outwith Scotland to bolster the two pro teams’ finances in order to keep pace with the growing investment in other nations, specifically in France and England.
The Union plan to maintain a controlling stake in the teams but chief executive Mark Dodson said that all options were on the table in discussions with potential investors.
