The diminutive, New Zealand-born centre replaces Peter Horne at inside centre for what will be his fourth cap but only second start, following on from his debut against Fiji last summer.
There’s recalls for Tommy Seymour – who missed the Ireland game last weekend with a back problem – hooker Fraser Brown, prop WP Nel and surprisingly Tim Swinson, who replaces Grant Gilchrist.
The Edinburgh lock drops out of the squad altogether and Richie Gray comes on to the bench for the first time in the championship.
Horne, Blair Kinghorn and Stuart McInally drop to the bench, with Gilchrist and Berghan dropping out of the matchday 23 altogether.
Zander Fagerson, who has missed the entire championship so far after a gym bench fell on his foot, comes on to the bench for the first time.
