Scotland have made four changes in addition to the one forced by the absence of Hamish Watson for the second Rugby World Cup pool game against Samoa on Monday.
An entirely new back row featuring Jamie Ritchie, Magnus Bradbury and Blade Thomson adds a considerable bit of weight, power and youth to the Scots, with John Barclay dropping out of the match day squad altogether and Ryan Wilson to the bench.
In the backs Tommy Seymour and Duncan Taylor drop out after disappointing displays against Ireland, with Darcy Graham and Chris Harris taking their places. Taylor is on the bench, as are the two young Glasgow half backs George Horne and Adam Hastings.
The other alteration on the bench sees Zander Fagerson replace Simon Berghan.
Bradbury was only officially called into the squad last week after the knee injury which ended Watson’s tournament, but he’s been with the squad as cover for Ritchie after his Edinburgh team-mate suffered a facial injury in the final warm-up game against Georgia and stayed in Scotland for minor surgery before rejoining the squad 10 days ago.
Bradbury will play at 6, having played at No 8 in his last start for Scotland against England at Twickenham in March, where he scored a try in the epic draw with the English. Thomson, not available then due to injury, starts his third game for his adopted country but his first true competitive one.
Darcy Graham’s inclusion was expected after he showed some spark as a replacement against Ireland, after being unlucky not to keep his position after a prolific start to his Scotland career with five tries in his first seven appearances.
Harris comes in for a bit of extra muscle in midfield after showing up well in warm-up games.
Scotland have opted against changing their half-back combination, but George Horne will come into the picture as the premier back-up to Greig Laidlaw after Ali Price’s broken foot ended his tournament this week.
