Chris Ramsey has said he fears having to perform a “sexy” routine on Strictly Come Dancing because it does not come easily to him.
The stand-up comedian, who is partnered with Karen Hauer on the BBC One show, said that having to look “manly” and serious while on the dancefloor will be a bigger challenge than the more jovial routines.
After performing a quickstep on Saturday night to Prince’s Let’s Go Crazy, Ramsey said: “We’ve had fun (this week). The quickstep is lovely and in my opinion a very silly dance, but a very joyful silly dance.
“It’s very skippy and daft and very, very fun.”
He said it is “100 million per cent” ideal for him as a comedian, adding: “It’s when I’ve got to be sexy that I’m going to be knackered later down the line, if I’ve got to do tangos and that.
“The hips worry me. Having to look intense on my face without pulling a stupid grin, that worries me.
“I like smiling, so I’m not looking forward to the ones where you’ve got to look really serious and try to look a bit, I don’t know, manly. It’s not something that comes easy to me.”
He joked: “I’ve never had a smouldering look. I don’t know where you can buy one from – I’m hoping to purchase one before I need to do it.”
Ramsey, 33, said he tries not to concern himself with the possibility that he might be eliminated each week.
“If I go, I go, but all I want to do is know that I am improving every week and getting better and just giving it my all, because people really care about this show,” he said.
“I just want to show the public that I’m not larking around and taking the mick, I am properly going for it and trying to improve, and that’s all I can do.
“Anything else – the judges’ comments, who people are going to vote for, who’s going to go out – that’s completely out of my hands so it’s not something I’m going to think about.”
On whether his confidence has been knocked seeing Dev Griffin make a shock exit last week, despite being considered one of the stronger dancers of the series, Ramsey said: “No, because I expect it’s going to be me every week.”
Ramsey and Hauer had scored 26 points compared to Griffin and his dance partner Dianne Buswell’s 27, but they avoided the dance-off following the public vote.
He added: “I don’t think (people) understand how rock bottom my confidence is with dancing, like I’m in minus confidence.
“Someone’s got to go every week, that’s just the way it is.”
Strictly Come Dancing: The Results is on BBC One at 7.15pm on Sunday.
