Kate Garraway has said she hopes to ban any talk of Brexit from the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campsite.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 52, is one of 10 stars jetting off Down Under, alongside reality TV regular Caitlyn Jenner and football star Ian Wright.

Garraway, who often presents the ITV breakfast show alongside Ben Shephard, said she couldn’t remember a day when she hadn’t read the news, even when on holiday.

But she admitted she would enjoy the peace and quiet of a Brexit-free campsite.

She said: “I am a news junkie and I can’t remember a time when I haven’t read a paper or, even when I am abroad, watched the news on a TV or your phone.

“But maybe one of the joys of doing I’m A Celebrity will be not talking about Brexit.

“Maybe that could be this year’s thing and nobody is allowed to talk about Brexit because I have been talking about Brexit since the year before the referendum.”

Garraway also revealed she will miss both fellow TV host Lorraine Kelly’s 60th birthday and celebrity journalist Richard Arnold’s 50th party during her stint in the jungle.

She insisted it was important to represent older women on the show.

Asked what was the biggest misconception she wanted to dispel, she said: “Nothing, I want to go in the jungle and fly the flag for the older woman.”

Garraway, who has two children, Darcey and William, with her husband Derek, said her family encouraged her to take part in the show.

“They are partly responsible for me doing it because they love the show so much,” she said.

“I don’t think they think I will be able to do it. Derek, my husband, is also excited about me doing this.”

Garraway also chose not to share the news with her colleagues on GMB, including Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

She added: “I can’t trust them to keep a secret.

“But I do think Ben Shepherd is going to be beyond delighted when he finds out as for years he has said: ‘OMG I’d love to see you on the show. You are just so hilarious and I think you will be good.’

“He thinks I will be incredibly useless and I know he will have great pleasure seeing me squirm.”

The new series of I’m A Celebrity will include the return of host Ant McPartlin alongside his long-time presenting partner Declan Donnelly.

McPartlin was replaced by Holly Willoughby in the series last year as he took a step back from TV commitments.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! starts on Sunday November 17 at 9pm on ITV.
