Fearsome enemy the Daleks will return in a Doctor Who festive special, BBC bosses have announced.
The one-off follows the end of series 12 on Sunday night, in which the fate of the Doctor appeared to be hanging in the balance.
Revolution Of The Daleks, to air around Christmas and New Year, will see the return of “one of the Doctor’s biggest and most feared enemies”.
Jodie Whittaker will reprise her role as the Time Lord, along with Tosin Cole, Bradley Walsh and Mandip Gill as her companions.
Showrunner Chris Chibnall said: “We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger! Well, we did.
“But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended special around Christmas and New Year. (I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you).
“There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.”
BBC content director Charlotte Moore said: “I can’t wait for the Doctor to go into battle with the ultimate enemy in this year’s Daleks festive special.”
Doctor Who’s New Year’s Day special in 2019 also featured the show’s most famous enemy.
Whittaker recently revealed she will be doing another series after the finale of the 12th on BBC One.
“I’m doing another season,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “That might be a massive exclusive that I’m not supposed to say, but it’s unhelpful for me to say (I don’t know) because it would be a massive lie!”
