Bill Roache has said that he does not think Coronation Street will stop being shown on television even if producers run out of new episodes to air.
The actor, 87, who plays Ken Barlow in the soap, told Good Morning Britain that there are “maybe about four months” of pre-recorded episodes that can be broadcast before they run out of new content.
ITV halted filming of the programme, which first aired in 1960, last month in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Roache said: “We have got 60 years to draw out, so I don’t think we will be going off air.
“Even when we run out, there’s plenty they can be showing and doing but I think we have got about four months in all, probably three more, I’m not sure.”
He added that he is “absolutely loving” the lockdown period as he is getting to spend time with his children Verity and Will.
“We are having a wonderful time together,” he added.
He said that he was using his time to do some painting and writing, and had also started playing the clarinet again.
Roache added that he has sympathy for those who are struggling during the pandemic.
“We can’t actually get out and do much but we could send them love and healing,” he said.
Coronation Street unlikely to go off air during the lockdown, says Bill Roache
