Kenny Farquharson of the Horn milkbar knows a thing or two about cattle.
After all, he has had a cow on the roof of his premises in the Carse of Gowrie for 40 odd years.
He got in touch with me after reading my tale of the bull in a china shop in Perth.
He told me the story of Jimmy Todd and Dave Hogg who took an Aberdeen Angus bull to the Simmental Society Dance in the Station Hotel, Perth.
Kenny said: “The story goes that during the 1970`s, continental breeds were starting to be imported into the UK and some of the traditional Aberdeen Angus boys were a bit miffed.
“So while a number of these chaps were enjoying a refreshment during lunchtime in the market bar in Caledonian Road, someone made the comment that they should show those Simmie breeders what a decent bull looks like.
“Jimmy Todd and Dave Hogg took them at their word. That evening, they donned their white jackets, dressed one of their best bulls and heading along Caley Road towards the Station Hotel.
“Legend has it that the funniest part of the story was the argument which ensued between the pair as to whether they were required by law to stop at the traffic lights.
“They entered the function suite at the Station Hotel by the back door; and arrived on the dance floor with their four -legged friend just as the band were striking up their first chords.
“This, of course, had a profound effect on the animal who subsequently left a mess for some poor unwitting waiter, more used to wine spillages.”
Great story, Kenny. Did the three of them get a taxi home?
