Oti Mabuse has revealed she was unsure about Strictly Come Dancing when she was first approached to appear on the German version of the show.
The professional dancer debuted on Let’s Dance in 2015 before making the leap to the British equivalent.
Mabuse has since appeared in four series of Strictly and finished runner-up with Hollyoaks actor Danny Mac in 2016.
Mabuse, from South Africa, said she had doubts about doing Strictly’s German version but soon fell in love with the show.
She told Radio Times magazine: “I always wanted to compete, I always wanted titles. I wasn’t sure at first when I was asked to be in the German version of Strictly because it wasn’t competing in the way I had thought I would – but when I did it, I fell in love with it and have stayed with the show.”
Mabuse is currently a captain on the BBC’s The Greatest Dancer, alongside pop star Cheryl and Glee star Matthew Morrison.
The Pretoria-born dancer, who studied civil engineering at university, added: “I don’t have goals in life; I just say yes and have so far been in the right place at the right time. Britain really loves watching people dance!”
