Pc Dave Wardell and his retired police dog Finn have won the first Britain’s Got Talent semi-final.
The duo were voted through by the public after their magic act based on the idea that Finn can read minds.
Flakefleet Primary School were also voted through to Sunday’s final. The school singers – judge David Walliams’ Golden Buzzer pick – made it into the top three alongside magic act The Haunting and the judges chose them to go through.
The Haunting, mimic Tony Rudd, dancers The Khronos Girls and Akshat Singh, roller-skaters Rosie and Adam and singer Brian Gilligan were all sent home.
The first live semi-final of the ITV show proved to be eventful, with judge Alesha Dixon announcing she is expecting a baby and fellow panellist Amanda Holden accidentally saying the f-word.
Presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly revealed Dixon’s news when they opened the show by singing a song which included the line: “And Alesha is expecting!”
A thrilled looking Dixon said she was “very happy”, as her fellow judge David Walliams joked that the baby was really his.
Later in the programme, Holden was taking part in The Haunting’s creepy performance when she appeared to say the f-word.
The judge was visibly afraid as she joined in the show, in which she was told that a ghost named Agatha had been following her.
At one point she turned around to look at the “ghost” and, seeing someone else there instead, swore before clapping her hand over her mouth.
“I just really want to apologise if I said anything,” Holden said afterwards, explaining it happened because she was so scared.
“I said a really terrible word. I know there are kids watching, I know my kids are watching, so massive apologies.”
The live semi-finals continue on ITV on Tuesday.
The winner of the series will receive a cash prize and the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.
