Here is BMW’s new X3, which will be cheaper and better equipped than the outgoing model.
Drawing styling cues from its big brother the X5, the new model is larger and smarter looking, better proportioned and has lost the narrow front profile that marred the old version.
Though other engines will follow, the only power plant available at launch will be the 2.0 litre, 181bhp four-cylinder 2.0 litre diesel. Even when the full line-up is available, this model will account for 80% of UK sales, BMW reckons.
Just as well, then, that it’s a goodie. From rest, it’ll achieve 62mph in 8.5 seconds; even better, it will achieve 50.4mpg on the combined cycle and emits a low 149g/km. Top speed is 131mph.
The xDrive 20d model will cost £30,490, making it £115 cheaper than the current smaller, more poorly equipped entry level X3.
All models come with stop-start technology as standard, including those with the optional eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Standard equipment includes full leather interior, two-zone air conditioning, iDrive controller and 6.5-inch colour screen, as well as intelligent four-wheel drive.
