The 2011 Mercedes Benz C-Class isn’t an all-new car, but it has been heavily revised. There’s reworked styling, a weight-saving aluminium bonnet, a more streamlined shape and revised engines with more power and better fuel economy.
The engine choices are a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol, with 156 or 204bhp variants, a 306bhp 3.5 litre V6 petrol, and a 2.2 litre turbodiesel with three power outputs 136, 170 and 204bhp.
The most economical C-Class is the C220 CDI, which averages 64.2mpg.
A technological feast, buyers have a choice of no fewer than 10 “driving assistance systems” which include help with keeping the driver awake, sensing nearby vehicles, parking the car, preparing for a crash, and so on.
There’s a new generation of telematics (which will be introduced across the rest of the Mercedes range) that allow passengers to access the internet on the move.
Mercedes have a lot resting on the new model with over 1million units sold since the current version’s launch in 2007, it is their bread and butter car.
The latest version goes on sale in the spring, and prices and full specification will be released nearer the time.
