Volkswagen’s new Polo has been crowned 2010 World Car of the Year.
In a contest judged by 59 of the world’s top automotive journalists very unjustly, I was overlooked for the panel it fought off 29 other contenders to take the prestigious award.
The accolade caps a fine honeymoon period for VW’s new model, coming just a few months after it was voted European Car of the Year.
Though it won the small car title at the Scottish Car of the Year Awards a competition I do help judge the Polo didn’t sweep me away on the same wave of euphoria as many of my peers.
I thought it was a thoroughly decent car but not a quantum leap forward from the previous model.
