One in 10 cars on Scotland’s roads should be electric if we’re to meet our climate change targets, according to a report by WWF Scotland.
Watt Car examines the role electric vehicles should play in Scotland’s future, concluding that 290,000 petrol cars need to be replaced by electric vehicles before 2020 and the projected increase in car use must be halted.
To meet this goal, electric vehicles have to capture 20% of the new car market by the end of this decade.
At the same time, Scotland should ‘decarbonise’ the power sector by 2030 and create a smart energy system to recharge them in the greenest possible way.
If the report’s vision becomes reality, it’ll be good news for Glasgow-based electric vehicle makers Allied Electric, and for Dundee Li-ion battery pack manufacturers Axeon.
