Subaru Cosworth Impreza to roar off the forecourts
ByNews reporter
Subaru has confirmed pricing for its marvellously bonkers Cosworth Impreza STI 400.
The first roadgoing Cosworth since the Escort Cosworth bit the dust in 1996, its 2.5-litre turbocharged engine has been reworked to produce 395bhp making it 33% more powerful than the not-exactly-short-changed Impreza STI.
The four-wheel-drive monster will do the 0-62mph sprint in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it 3.7 seconds.
Carry on going and you’ll have done quarter of a mile in 12.75 seconds, by which time you’ll be licking along at 107mph. Keep the foot down and it’ll reach 155mph before the electronic speed limiter kicks in bringing with it a dose of reality.
Brakes and suspension have been uprated to cope with the car’s massive power, and it sits on lightweight 18″ alloy wheels. At a fiver under £50,000, it’s not at all cheap, however Subaru are only putting 75 of them up for sale in the UK.
They’re available from this month, and I reckon they’ll be snapped up pretty quickly.
