Rock star Chris Rea’s engine blew up at the weekend, casting the one shadow on an otherwise successful 2010 Scottish Speedfair and Classic Festival in Fife.
Rea had practised on Friday and was the quickest in his Ferrari group, but his engine failed on Saturday and it was not repairable.
The engine failure left the crowd disappointed and also ensured an early trip home for the musician.
The weekend’s entertainment included off-track race cars, show cars, motor rally cars and a stunt biplane.
One of the anticipated highlights of the weekend was to be rock star Chris Rea racing at the wheel of a Ferrari.
In addition, the Ferrari Owners Club held a gathering yesterday.
Another exciting moment for the thousands who turned up was the sight of the World Championship winning McLaren F1 car that belonged to the legendary James Hunt.
Stuart Gray, event director at Knockhill, said he was delighted with the weekend, although he admitted that the Rea incident was a big blow.
“The only disappointment was Chris’s engine blowing up,” he said.
“He had practiced on Friday and was the quickest in his class but the engine blew on the Saturday and it was unrepairable so he had to go home,” he said.
“It was a real shame as he was looking forward to competing.
“However, apart from that it has been a nice event, with good weather, good crowds and above all a great atmosphere.
“The F1 cars have been simply fantastic and we had around 70 Ferraris at the site, which is believed to be one of the biggest gatherings they have held,” Stuart added.
Knockhill will host the British Superbikes this weekend.
