Volkswagen’s new Touareg will cost from £38,255 when it goes on sale in October.
The new model is 20mm longer than the old, but is 200kg lighter, 20% more efficient and retains its 3.5 tonne towing capacity.
Your £38,255 buys the 3.0 litre, 237bhp TDI model in SE trim.
British buyers will also have the choice of a 4.2 litre, 335bhp V8 TDI version and a 375bhp hybrid model that combines a 3.0 litre petrol engine with an electric motor.
The 3.0 litre diesel does 38.2 to the gallon and emits 195g/km of CO2, while the V8 diesel manages 31mpg and emits 239g/km of CO2.
The hybrid is not as fuel-efficient as the smaller diesel, returning 34.4mpg (though it just pips the oil burner for emissions, with 193g/km of CO2) but it does have hot hatch-beating quickness, getting from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds.
The hybrid will cost £54,995 and the V8 £56,530.
Needless to say, Volkswagen expect the smaller diesel to be by far the biggest seller.
All versions have eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox, and every Touareg will be fitted with full leather trim, touchscreen sat nav, DAB radio, walnut trim, two-zone climate control and intelligent four-wheel drive as standard.
