Volkswagen have unveiled their new Jetta, which goes on sale in the UK next spring.
It’s still based on the Golf, but is bigger, sharper looking and more distinctive than the current model.
At 4644mm in length, it’s a full 90mm longer than the present version, and just 121mm shorter than the Passat.
Six engines will be available at launch four petrols and two diesels. There’s a 1.2 litre, 104bhp TSI, a 1.4 litre TSI with 121 or 158bhp and a range-topping 2.0 litre TSI with 197bhp.
Diesel fans can pick from a 1.6 litre, 104bhp TDI or a 2.0 litre TDI with 138bhp.
The 1.2 litre petrol and 1.6 litre diesel units can be specified with BlueMotion technology, which includes start/stop and battery regeneration. This allows the little petrol unit to return 53.2mpg while emitting 123g/km of CO2, and the diesel 68mpg, with emissions of just 109g/km.
Prices and UK specification won’t be announced for a while yet, but expect the Jetta to start at around £18,000.
