The ever-popular Mini gets an update later this year, with the headline news being the introduction of a new turbo diesel engine.
The 1.6 litre unit is available in two strengths, 90bhp in the One D and 112bhp in the Cooper D.
Both have identical combined fuel economy of 74.3mpg, and both emit just 99g/km of CO2, making them exempt from annual VED tax.
Both engines are also available in the Mini Clubman (72.4mpg and 103g/km) though convertible buyers only get the 112bhp unit (70.6mpg and 105g/km).
The increased weight and aerodynamic drag of these versions drops fuel economy and increases emissions very slightly, putting them back into VED territory, but only in the second-lowest £35-a-year category.
There are minor changes, both external (new front bumper, fog lamps, LED brake lights) and internal (the centre console, steering wheel, climate and audio controls have all been tinkered with) and DAB digital radio now comes as standard.
There’s also an optional Mini Connected system which lets iPhone users connect to Google, receive news feeds, send texts and listen to any web-based radio station in the world.
The 2011 model-year Mini goes on sale in September.
