Dogs took the lead as one of the oddest but fastest-growing sports in the country arrived in Fife at the weekend.
A host of runners and dogs gathered in Lochore Meadows Country Park for a CaniX or cani-cross race.
The new sport involves running with a dog and the first event was held at Glentrees near Peebles in April.
Eileen Cook, who organises the sport nationally, said she was pleased with the two-day Fife event.
“Spectators love it because people run with all breeds of dogs imaginable,” she said. “And it’s great as a competition in that it caters for all ages.”
Competitors included Colin Reid from Dunfermline and his border terrier Mitch. Colin took up the fast-growing sport when he felt he was getting too slow for normal athletics.
Most of the CaniX races he competes in are held in England, but he hopes the Lochore event will raise the sport’s profile in Scotland.
The event also featured a ‘bikejor,’ when cyclists race with their dogs. There was also a class for children and “would-be” CaniX competitors.
