This year’s Angus Glens Walking Festival will include a walk dedicated to the bicentenary of the completion of the Bell Rock Lighthouse.
The Year of the Light walk is part of the 2011 celebrations marking an incredible feat of engineering that has stood the test of time.
Those taking part will be able to join in the Year of the Light celebrations and learn more about the Bell Rock Lighthouse and its relationship with Arbroath.
The festival, which runs from June 2-5, includes a walk every day which is suited to people of all abilities, giving everyone the chance to take part.
On Saturday, June 4, the Year of the Light walk will start at the Signal Tower museum which was built as a support base for the Bell Rock Lighthouse.
Walkers will hear the fascinating story about how the lighthouse was constructed, manned and operated.
They will then be guided around Arbroath’s harbour area and be told about its fishing history, and the area’s natural history and bird life. For more information and to book visit www.angusahead.com/walkingfestival.
