The Angus glens were at their early summer best to welcome the first of more than 300 outdoors enthusiasts to the area’s 2010 walking festival.
Walkers from Scotland, the rest of the UK and beyond are enjoying the Angus Glens Walking Festival’s 24 guided walks and an associated social programme.
The four-day festival, now in its eighth year, kicked off in glorious condition with one of the most challenging walks a 14-mile hike from Capel Mounth to Spittal of Loch Muick via Glen Doll and finishing with refreshments at Glen Clova Hotel.
Angus Council economic development spokesman David May said the festival offered a great package.
“Walking is a huge visitor draw for Scotland. We’ve got the fantastic countryside and by packaging walking opportunities we can make it even easier for tourists looking for an active break,” he said.
“The walking festival is a great example of the council, VisitScotland and local businesses working together to package what in Angus is a really excellent tourism product.
“Having an extra 300 people trekking Angus’ hills and glens will have little impact on the environment other than gathering more fans for the glens but these paying visitors can make a significant economic impact.
“The promotion of it also has broader spin-offs and we’ve already had inquiries for accommodation and other walking packages on the back of this year’s event.”
