A new Dundee travel guidebook has been launched to entice people to come and rediscover the city.

Introduced by TV presenter and honorary Dundonian Lorraine Kelly and full of locals’ favourite spots and tips Dundee: The City Guide is said to offer a unique insight into what makes the city of many discoveries tick.

The guide brings together a taste of what’s on offer from cultural gems and vibrant nightspots to unspoilt beaches and stunning views. Organised into eight categories, the 120-page guide is edited by writer and interior designer Catharina Day, who has lived with her family near Dundee for over 18 years.

Lorraine Kelly introduces the guide with a personal foreword highlighting what she loves about the city she now calls home.

She said, “I have seen enormous changes in Dundee in the past 25 years. It has always been a wonderful place to live but there has been a real renaissance recently and there’s a feeling of optimism for the future. The city has so much to offer and it’s the prefect base to explore some of the most beautiful parts of Scotland.

“It’s great that visitors to the city can now uncover its secrets with this new guidebook. From cultural gems and vibrant nightspots to unspoilt beaches and stunning views there is so much to see and do. I’d therefore urge everyone to make their own discoveries abut the city. I did and it became my home.”

Dundee ambassadors including Brian Cox and journalist and author Martel Maxwell are among those sharing their tips, favourite spots and thoughts on the city.

Cox says, “The Dundee Rep was really pioneering. It was where I started my theatrical career and developed my interest in acting when I was a teenager. The Rep itself really marked the card for the whole idea of what a rep was”.

Maxwell, who helped launch the guide, said, “Dundee’s more vibrant than ever. Over the years the shopping in the city has really improved and there’s a great social scene in the city too with trendy bars, quality restaurants and a buzzing nightlife.

“I’m also absolutely thrilled that the V&A is coming to Dundee. I’m delighted the waterfront has been chosen as the location, as visitors will see first hand the beauty of the Tay. It’s great for everyone in the city.”

The guide will be available in shops and hotels across the country, and can also be ordered online.
