Gourdon pupils were spellbound by the stories of 95-year-old second world war veteran Len Trevallion when he visited their school.
As the youngsters neared the conclusion of their second world war project one of them, Jack Ralph, revealed that his great-grandfather had been in the war and written a book about his exploits.
Mr Trevallion responded to the school’s request for a visit and yesterday he drove across from his Crieff home to tell him story.
Mr Trevallion was in the Metropolitan Police vice squad when he got fed up being bombed upon and joined the RAF so he could return the compliment.
He proved to be a natural pilot and for much of the war served in North Africa and Italy piloting Blenheim bombers.
He became a flying instructor and after the war returned to the Met.
Head teacher Sandra Japp said, “His wonderful stories were so clearly told.
“He was inspirational.”
