Hair donor Oscar says being mistaken for a girl was tough “but not as tough as being sick”

A little leg-pulling over the length of his hair didn’t faze an Angus youngster who was out to help young cancer sufferers.
Six-year-old Stracathro Primary School pupil Oscar Waddell dodged the barber’s chair for a year with the sole intention of donating his locks to charity.
He had heard his hair could be made into a wig for children who had lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
Over the months he grew an impressive seven-inch ponytail and was mistaken for a girl on several occasions.
But it didn’t deter him.
As well as avoiding the scissors, he set about raising funds through friends and local clubs and has now collected more than £1,700 for the Little Princess Trust.
Oscar said: “It was tough being teased about having long hair, and looking like a girl, but not as tough as it must be being sick.”
After finally having his wild tresses shorn at Brechin Rugby Club, where he plays for the micros-team the Pirates, Oscar plans to grow his hair long again.
His proud family thanked everyone who supported him.
