Performers from the Verdant Works in Dundee donned 1940s outfits to launch the city”s involvement in this year”s Show Scotland festival.

The event organised by Museums Galleries Scotland takes place this weekend, with a variety of visitor attractions in Tayside and Fife involved.

The cast of Jute and Jitterbugging will recreate the sights and sounds of a wartime jute mill at the Verdant Works, giving visitors the chance to attend an air raid precautions (ARP) training session, dance to music of the era and take a stroll around a number of vintage vehicles.

The D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum at Dundee University will host an afternoon of music and talks, in addition to a street theatre show to mark the 150th anniversary of life sciences pioneer Sir D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson. Nobel Prize winner Professor Lewis Wolpert will provide a public lecture on the development of pattern and form at the university’s Dalhousie Building.

The Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther will host events including a self-sufficiency workshop, a wartime cookery demonstration.

The Gateway Gallery in St Andrews will be the venue for a D’Arcy Thompson themed theatre event.

In Perth, the Fergusson Gallery will run dance classes and The Black Watch Regimental Museum will provide tours and a family drop-in event.

Show Scotland runs until Monday, with many free attractions. More information is at www.showscotland.com.
