The Belgian army has asked Courier readers for help tracing the relatives of a Dundee airman killed during the second world war.
Sergeant Norman MacDonald, an air gunner and radio operator, died on September 20, 1940 and is buried in the Adegem Canadian War Cemetery in Maldegem, Belgium.
Frank Raeman, a chief warrant officer with the Belgian Armed Forces, is writing a book about the 154 airmen buried at the cemetery, but has been unable to find any significant biographical details about Mr MacDonald.
All that is known is he was born in Dundee on November 27, 1915 to Charles and Margaret MacDonald, lived in the city’s Paterson Street, and served with 75 Squadron of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
“Of the entire crew of his aircraft he is the last one of which we were not able to contact any family at all,” said CWO Raeman.
“I hope to find family of anyone else who would be able to help us receiving some more information and a photograph of Norman MacDonald, which we would be allowed to use in our book.”
