Young athletes from all over Europe took part in a Highland games in Perth as part of a week-long celebration of sport.
With support from European funding allocated to Perth and Kinross, the mini- Olympiads is a cultural and sporting exchange programme last held in Germany in 2008 and featuring representatives from Perth’s twin towns of Aschaffenburg and Bydgoszcz.
As well as sporting events in swimming, football, gymnastics, badminton, table tennis and golf, Perth and Kinross Sports Council has also pulled together a series of cultural activities including Scottish country dancing at the Bridge of Earn Institute.
Councillor Bob Ellis, chairman of the sports council, said, “Hosting a sporting event such as this one, with young people visiting from different cultures, is a responsibility we take seriously.
“Being able to showcase the talents of these athletes as part of Perth 800 is wonderful for the city and for us as organisers,” Councillor Ellis added.
“The cultural part of the exchange is important for everyone.”
The mini-Olympiads culminate in an awards ceremony at the Dewars Centre tonight, Friday, August 6, to be followed by a ceilidh.
