Superfit septuagenarian Mick McKeown is set to deliver a big boost to a charity for service families after successfully completing a summer cycling tour of Scotland.
The Forfar 73-year-old is now gathering in his sponsorship after the gruelling clockwise circuit of the country in which he covered 1250 miles in just 24 days.
Mick, who served in the Royal Artillery for almost 40 years after joining as a boy soldier, completed the challenge to raise funds for Family Travel, which helps meet transport and accommodation costs for service families visiting their injured loved ones.
He hopes to have raised around £2000 from the venture and has thanked everyone who supported his two-wheeled effort.
“When I look back it was a nice challenge, but it was very hard at times,” said Mick.
“The wind was the biggest problem and it seemed to always be in your face.
“I didn’t take a rest day so I was pleased to complete it in the 24 days and I’m grateful to everybody who sponsored me,” he added.
