Engine problems and a huge storm mean members of a Dundee seafaring charity have had an enforced pause in their 2300-mile voyage from Majorca to the city.
The latest Taymara recruit a 23-metre motor yacht named Lady Lex is now on loan to the group from Newcastle businessman Clive McKeag.
Taymara will use the craft, the third in their fleet, to help enthusiasts and recovering substance abusers gain sea training and other employability skills.
But first they have to sail the vessel back from its berth in Palma.
That is not proving easy because minor engine problems have delayed the crew which includes 16-year-old merchant navy trainee Joel Devereux and recovering alcoholic Paul Smith (48) in Gibraltar.
Yachtmaster Andrew Jeffrey said, “We experienced some minor problems with the main engines en route from Alicante and are now awaiting replacement fuel filters from UK.
“The delay would have been frustrating, but this morning’s shipping forecast for the Straits of Gibraltar and sea area Trafalgar is for a force nine easterly gale with six metre seas.
“So Lady Lex and her crew will be staying snug in her berth beneath the famous Rock until the storm blows through.”
