A St Johnstone player has been asked to appear at court after apparently driving without a valid licence for over a year.
Striker, Andy Jackson, has been called to explain himself after court officials discovered he possibly should not have been driving after failing to send his licence to DVLA to have a prior conviction recorded on it.
Justice of the Peace officials in Perth found Jackson (22), of Denny, had been given three points and fined £70 for a minor speeding offence at Stirling Sheriff Court on September 23, 2008.
He had a year to have his licence updated but did not do so, despite a pair of reminder letters, prompting DVLA to state it had formally revoked his right to drive.
The Republic of Ireland under-21 striker had been making his way to training at McDiarmid Park on March 10 this year when he was pulled over and failed to produce insurance documents.
He admitted driving without insurance on the A9 at Broxden roundabout but the other matter then came to light.
Responding to court queries, a DVLA representative wrote, “Mr Jackson’s cover to drive ceased on November 19, 2009.
“I can confirm he has not applied for a renewal driving licence. Therefore he was not covered to drive on 10 March 2010.”
The case has called five times at the JP court because of the confusion and was deferred again on Friday when Jackson’s solicitor asked for it to be put off.
