The new-look Dandy hits the streets this week with TV funnyman Harry Hill making his debut in the iconic Dundee comic.
The TV Burp star has written his own strip in the Dandy, which has been published by D.C. Thomson & Co Ltd since 1937 making it the UK’s longest-running comic.
Dandy editor Craig Graham said it was a “real thrill” to be working with one of the nation’s favourite family comedians.
He said, “As he writes the strip himself, I’m not exactly sure what’s going to be appearing each week, so I’m eager as everyone else to find out.”
Harry Hill joins 18 new characters in the comic, which will still feature old favourites like Desperate Dan and Bananaman.
Craig said, “As long as the old characters can be kept relevant and up to date they will be there, because they are icons.
“The comic has always evolved and we have a big research programme twice a year and focus groups to have an insight into normal kids’ lives.”
The comic is also putting readers in control for the first time, letting them decide which characters stay and who will be relegated to the Dandy cartoon crypt to make way for new stars.
