A former Dundee woman and her family have thanked the mystery passer-by who ensured their Christmas can be remembered for all the right reasons.
Vicky Robinson had travelled from Blackpool with her husband Trevor and two-year-old daughter Natalie to spend the festive season at the home of her mother, Loraine Cobb, in Kirriemuir.
However, the atmosphere was far from celebratory when the Robinson family dog Shady, a much-loved Staffordshire bull terrier, went missing from the garden of the house in Muir Street on Boxing Day.
“She was out in the garden with my mum’s dogs when she went missing at about half-past six,” said Vicky. “We went out looking for her in a panic and phoned the police and everything.
“The next morning there was still no trace of her, so we phoned round again. Then we got a phone call from Forfar police station to say she had been there since seven o’clock the night before.”
Apart from a couple of scratches, Shady was none the worse for her experience and her night in the cells.About-turnThe news that the dog had been found prompted a quick about-turn for Trevor, who had already started to drive home. He had been forced to leave the rest of the family in Scotland to look for Shady while he headed back down south to return to work.
The family eventually arrived home in Blackpool in the early hours of Tueday morning complete with their pet.
Vicky said she would like to have had the chance to thank the person who handed Shady in to the police.
“I presume she was found somewhere near my mum’s house but the person who found her and took her to the police didn’t leave a name,” she said.
“We really want to say thank you for handing her in.”
